Mordheim Hired Sword: Warlock

A one-off non-warband model for Mordheim - this Warlock is a Hired Sword who can tag along with anyone who'll pay for his services (apart from the Witch Hunters who want him dead). This was a fun kitbash with a mix of kits from throughout the last 20 years, including one very very old head.

Way back when, I decapitated a classic plastic Wizard from HeroQuest to use his body for a Moon Aelf kitbash. Blasphemous I know, but bear in mind the poor fellow had endured at least two thick repaints, while also losing and regaining his arms and weapons at the hands of an enthusiastic teenage Hek. Twenty-odd years later I paint stripped the model a bit too harshly, leaving the plastic with a slightly rough texture. So he wasn't in the best shape, and the most humane option was to give him new life in not one but two kitbashes! His body became a Moon Aelf Tidecaster. And now at last I've given his head the new body it deserves.

I wanted to lean into the archetypal Gandalf-type wizard for this conversion. I had a spare body from the Hurricanum kit, which is really an alternative sculpt for an Empire Battle Wizard. I had a spare wizard's staff from the Octen Glimscry model. And I had some puffy sleeves from the Greatswords kit, a nice open hand from probably one of the modern zombie kits, a bundle of bird skulls from the Corvus Cabal, and an esoteric trinket from the Cities of Sigmar. Put it altogether and you have an ideal grey wizard.

A bit of green stuff work was needed to blend his big head onto the body, to repair his hat, and to roll back one of his cloak sleeves to expose the big puffy shirtsleeve. The original HeroQuest model's hands were massive so it was a revelation to see him with more appropriately scaled hands from more modern kits.

For painting, he got a range of different greys ideal for a humble archetypal Grey Wizard. Nothing very fancy! No one in my Mordheim warbands looks particularly grand.

Thanks for reading! I have another Mordheim warband coming up next (they're already up on my Instagram).
