Age of Sigmar Moon Aelves part 2

Dropping an update on my #28magchallenge entry. Two specialised units of Moon Aelves and their leader are assembled and ready for a closeup.

Like the Idoneth's Namarti caste, the Moon Aelves have flaws. In this case, gravity affects them very weakly, leaving them almost weightless on the grounds of the Mortal Realms. Their connection to the moon Celine means they are more comfortable in the environment it provides.

The Moon Aelves I'm building are divided into two units of four. One, the light infantry, is a close combat unit armed with swords and shields and wearing full plate armour. They're light in the sense that their near-weightlessness allows them to fluidly dance through thin air and strike with incredible speed.Their leader is a four-armed being, whose movements are more dance-like than the others. I figured if the Daughters of Khaine can get cool body-modifications after their reincarnation in the Mortal Realms, then other Aelves can look similarly unusual.

The second unit is the heavy infantry. In fact these poor lower-caste Aelves are even less affected by gravity and would almost blow away in the wind were it not for their super-heavy environmental suits weighing them down. I planned these to look like fantasy astronauts with bulky airtight exosuits. I looked at Japanese "Dogu" statues wihch some people have believed to represent "ancient astronauts". This heavy infantry is armed with repeater crossbows. At this stage they're pre-greenstuff. I plan to sculpt some more ornate detailing.

Finally there's a single leader character. I based his appearance on the classic Rogue Trader Eldar Farseer, a model I really love. He's also reminiscent of the Idoneth Soulscryer model – that's a mixed blessing because I suppose a Tidecaster would make more sense for a Moon-based army! I also love the official Tidecaster model though so I'd love to homage that in a separate build one day. In an act of hobby blasphemy, I chopped up an old plastic Warhammer Quest wizard to make this guy... to be fair the poor wizard was already suffering under a 20 yaer old paint job and was looking a little worse for wear already. I think it's an improvement!

Both regiments and the leader are completely sealed in their armour. I'm not sure on the lore yet but perhaps they fare better in their lunar home environment for whatever reasons. Their coming down to earth to steal mortal breaths might have something to do with it. I considered at one point giving them oxygen tanks but that might be pushing the sci-fantasy aspect a bit too far...

Stay tuned for the finished models.
